Liver is a part of the digestive system. It is the organ that produces the digestive enzyme called bile. When the liver is not in healthy condition, whole digestive system is affected. Alagille syndrome

Alagille syndrome is a liver disease that is caused by genetic disorders. It mimics some other types of liver problems. People suffering from this disease have unusual features in other organ systems. Basic cause is mutation in one or two genes. Symptoms of this illness are poor growth of the baby within first three months of birth and jaundice, which is followed by itchy and fatty deposits on the skin. Abnormalities in other organs like cardiovascular abnormalities confirm the occurrence of Alagille syndrome.

Autoimmune hepatitis

Autoimmune hepatitis is the liver disorder that is characterized by chronic inflammation of the organ. Hepatitis is nothing but inflammation of liver and this particular disease occurs when a person’s own system creates the inflammation. Exact cause of this disease is not known, but it appears there certain types of white blood cells along with some foreign substances start considering the lives cells to be foreign substances in the body. As a result, they attack the liver and cause the inflammation. Certain types of drugs, and hepatitis of types B and C can also cause the autoimmune hepatitis. In most cases there are no symptoms for this disease and it can be detected only through a routine blood test. Certain people suffer from decreased appetite, fatigue, muscle and joint pains.

Biliary Atresia

Biliary Atresia is a rare disease of the liver affecting children. The bile duct that reaches the intestine from the liver gets damaged and thus prevents the bile from reaching the intestine. This finally results in building up of bile in the liver and is harmful for health. It is not a contagious disease and is not genetic either. This disease can be detected within two months after the birth of the child as the newborn suffers from jaundice that does not show any improvement in two weeks time. Baby having dark coloured urine along with pale coloured stool, enlarged liver and swollen abdomen are some other symptoms of this disease.

Cirrhosis of liver

Cirrhosis of liver is the liver disorder that develops due to permanent scar or damage of the organ. It results in the blocking the flow of blood through the liver and finally prevents normal metabolism and regulatory functions of the body. Over consumption of alcohol, viral infection due to viral hepatitis, some specific type of metabolic disease are the major causes of this disease. Nausea, loss of appetite, loss of weight, fatigue, feeling weak and exhaustion are the primary symptoms.

Fatty liver

Fatty liver is the disorder that is caused due to excess fat in the liver when the person’s diet consists of more fat that can be absorbed by the body. All the excess fats get stored in the liver and gives way to the disease. Protein malnutrition, intestinal bypass surgery and rapid weight loss are some of the causes of the disease. Generally there is no specific symptom of this disease. Feeling discomforts in the abdomen, fatigue are some of the uneasiness that make us to consult a doctor.
